"Leah Sharibu Abducted by Boko Haram is still alive, Nigeria Govt should provide her now or...... - CAN vibrates

CAN has responded to a call by an aid worker in Boko Haram captivity.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure the release of all hostages.

The Christian body said it had seen the video of the six humanitarian workers who were abducted by insurgents in Northeast Nigeria, calling on the government and CAN to come to their rescue.

CAN President, Samson Ayokunle, in a statement on Friday, called on the government and security agencies to ensure the release of Leah Sharibu, Grace Taku and other hostages held by Boko Haram terrorists before it is too late.

Ayokunle also expressed believe that Leah Sharibu is still alive despite the statement of the aid worker.

He noted that the primary duty of any serious government is the security of lives and property of the people, adding that any government that cannot guarantee this responsibility may lose the confidence of the citizens.

He said, “Boko Haram sect sometimes in April this year reportedly kidnapped a National Youth Service Corps member, Abraham Amuta and a cleric with Living Faith Church (Winners Chapel), identified as Pastor Moses Oyeleke in Borno State. We have not heard anything about their whereabouts.

“We have heard the prompt response made by the Federal Government to the Save-Our-Soul cry of Grace and we join her in calling on President Muhammadu Buhari, and the security agencies, especially the Department of State Security to secure her freedom, and that of Leah Sharibu.

“Grace Taku has cried out on behalf of other hostages, like Amuta and Pastor Moses Oyeleke before it is too late.”

CAN said it strongly believed Sharibu is alive and she and others should be set free, stressing that the government needed to expedite action towards their release.

The group also restated calls for the overhaul of the nation’s security apparatus, noting that roads are unsafe “as kidnappers, terrorists, killer herdsmen and bandits are operating with impunity.”

Nigerians have been told to stop complaining about President Muhammadu Buhari’s style of doing things and accept him as he is since they willingly voted for him.

This was the position of the president’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina. He added that Buhari, having displayed his style of doing things for over two years now, should be understood by Nigerians.

Adesina bomb Nigerians say, stop complaining about Buhari, nobody forced you to vote for him

Adesina made these comments in a phone interview with Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Monday. He was responding to a question by the electronic media on why Buhari is not thinking of addressing the country in a video recording.

“It is a matter of personal style; there is no style that you can call ‘the’ style. The style of our President is what you have seen on display and by now two years after he came, I am sure that we should understand him.

“We should know the kind of person he is; we should know how he prefers to do things and that is how the President is.

“That just tells you that that is the way our President is; we elected him willingly and we have seen that this is the way he is,” was the response of Adesina.

The question was sequel to a photo showing Buhari in a meeting with a delegation of his party, All Progressives Congress (APC), comprising of governors and led by the party’s national chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun in London.

Insinuations that Buhari had been on life support were heightened when Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose made the claim amid a situation where neither photos nor videos of the president had emerged since his long absence.

Many had doubted the authenticity of the Sallah message audio he was reported to have sent out to Muslims in Hausa language and demanded that either a video or photos showing the president be published to douse tension over his health concerns.

Buhari left Nigeria for a follow-up treatment in London 78 days ago having earlier spent 49 days in London for an ailment yet to be disclosed.

2019 Poll: Frank urge US to extend visa ban to wives, children of political riggers who undermined democracy

A former deputy national publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has appealed to the United States (US) to extend its visa ban on some Nigerian politicians to their family members.

The US had earlier in the week said it was going to impose visa restrictions on “individuals responsible for undermining the Nigerian democratic process.”

But Frank, in a statement on Friday, called on the US to ensure both the politicians, “their wives and children” were never allowed to enter the US.

He further called on the United Kingdom, European Union and others, who had prior to the 2019 general elections, vowed to ensure visa restrictions on any politician involve in election rigging, to fulfill their promises like the US.

He said, “I must commend the US for living up to expectation as promised before the 2019 general elections. The visa ban on yet to be named persons has clearly shown that the outcome of the last presidential election was manipulated.

“I urge the governments of the United Kingdom, European Union and other democratic nations to emulate the recent step taken by the American government.

“More importantly, the international community should show more interest in the ongoing election tribunal cases in Nigeria, most especially the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal and the Supreme Court. The U.S. government should not hesitate to sanction judges who dare compromise the wishes of the people as freely expressed during the 2019 general elections.

“It is also important that the Chief of Army Staff and other military officers who took part in rigging the said election should not go free. They should be banned also to sound a note of warning to other military officers.”

The US did not mention names of the politicians the action will be against, but Frank said Nigerians politicians, especially those in the governing All Progressives Congress (APC), should apply for American visa, to see if their names are not in the list.
