Vehicular movements and commercial activities were shutdown in South-East and South-south in compliance with the sit-at-home declared by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.
IPOB declared Sit-at-home to commemorate Biafra fallen heroes.
In Abia state, the business city (Aba) was completely shutdown, the stores were locked and the roads were deserted. The same happened in other parts of the state.
Mr. Uchenna Okere, who spoke with VIEW REPORT, described it as a welcome development. “Honestly, I am very happy to see that our people performed very well in this year’s sit at home. This indicates that we all really want Biafra’s independence for which so many people have died fighting for.”
Onitsha, Enugu, did not stay out in the Sit-at-home. The main bridge and the main market of Onitsha were deserted, while the streets and markets of Enugu were just like ghost town.
Although some markets closed in Imo and Ebonyi, the states registered 75% compliance.
Mrs. Hannah attributed the 60% compliance in Bayelsa to the low publicity and lack of the transmission of Radio Biafra in the state.
“People complied, but not as much, because the information concerning the Sit-At-Home did not extend mainly to rural areas. Next time, if there is enough publicity, it will be observed well.”
The directive registered 85% in Delta and 70% in Rivers state.
In Asaba, Delta State, the popular modern market of Ogbogologo registered a low turnout.
9:33 am, the Slaughter Marin market in Asaba where cows are slaughtered and sold was completely deserted, with no commercial activities in the market and its surroundings.
Also in other parts of Delta state, the there was no commercial activities and vehicular movements. The roads were deserted.
Some residents seen in the streets of Aba were sitting and discussing, others were playing soccer and some engaging in recreational activities.
