The Indigenous Youth Forum, IYF, has described the assault on the immediate past deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremudu, as a resounding warning to political leaders in South-East and South-south.
Senator Ike Ekweremadu was assaulted on Saturday, by suspected members of the Indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB) in an Igbo traditional festival in Nuremberg, Germany.
In a statement received by Eco City Reporters, on Monday, IYF spokesperson, Comrade Bariledum Joseph, said the political leader has feign ignorance of the unabated killings by Fulani herdsmen and military brutality going on in the region, adding that it is necessary to hold them accountable.
“For us, this is just the beginning because all politicians in South-East and South-south will no longer be tolerated, we must hold them accountable as they have failed to defend the interest of our people,” IYF said.

* ASSAULT ON EKWEREMADU *
IYF PRESS STATEMENT
Following the purported attack on Ike Ekweremadu, the immediate past deputy senate president by angry Igbos believed to be IPOB members in Germany.
We the Indigenous Youth Forum (IYF), hereby state as follows:
Firstly, New Yam Festival is an Igbo traditional festival, and as customs demands, such festival is required to be held in IgboLand using yam planted in IgboLand for the celebration, but in this case this egocentric politicians went to far away Germany to eat German yam, that in its self is a desecration of the Igbo tradition .
How unfortunate it is when people who are supposed to be custodians of our customs are now the ones debasing the same.
Secondly, in wake of unabated killings in the land, our political leaders has feign ignorance of it and have not at all openly condemn the attack by herdsmen or military brutality on the hapless indigenous population.
Therefore it is necessary to hold this leaders accountable.
As the great Martin Luther King said, “Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupididty”. He also said “We who engage in non-violent direct action are not the creators of tension, we merely bring to the surface the hidden tension that is already alive”.
Therefore, the attack on Ike Ekweremadu is a welcome development and a resounding warning to all corrupt politicians in South-East and South-South who are feeding fat at expense of the suffering of our people .
For us, this is just the beginning because all politicians in South-East and South-south will no longer be tolerated, we must hold them accountable as they have failed to defend the interest of our people.
Enough is enough.

Comr. Bariledum Joseph
