In the early hours of Monday, an unspecified number of residents of Enugu State's Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area were attacked by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
Our correspondent learned that the victims were on their way to the market when they were stranded in Opanda, Uzo-Uwani, with many of them in critical condition.
There are reports that three of the victims were confirmed dead on the spot, even as searches continue for more casualties.
They were said to be coming from Obie Aku farm settlement when they were attacked by gunmen in a bush. The attack is being treated as an attempted murder.
