“We have a right to report criminal activity”: GTBank speaks on Innoson boss arrest

GTBank has responded to reports especially on social media that it was responsible for Wednesday’s arrest of the founder of Innoson Motors, Innocent Chukwuma, who is one of the bank’s customers.

Without mentioning any names in its press release posted on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) website, the bank said “as a law abiding corporate citizen” it reserves the right to “report any untoward/criminal activity to the appropriate law enforcement agencies for investigation…”
The bank’s statement was signed by its company secretary, Erhe Obebeduo

GTBank further said it would not comment on issues that are currently being investigated or before the law courts. It would however continue to exercise its rights in respect of pursuing delinquent loans or any criminal activity.

While the bank did not specifically mention the name of the customer in question, various media reports had stated that the bank was in a dispute with Innocent Chukwuma Chairman/CEO of the Innoson Group. Chukwuma was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly turning down its invitation after skipping administrative bail.

Spokesman for the Innoson Group in a statement had alleged hat Chukwuma had been arrested in connection with an on-going case with GT Bank.
