Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, raising a number of critical issues for the Jewish state.
Among the top items on Netanyahu’s agenda was his request that International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Yukiya Amano inspect a new Iranian site that the Israeli premiere exposed as an undercover nuclear facilityin his address to the UN General Assembly this week.
In his UN speech, Netanyahu revealed what he described as a “secret atomic warehouse” in Tehran, which he says proves Iran never stopped trying to develop nuclear weapons. He also referred Israel’s heist of half a ton of evidence from an Iranian warehouse related to the regime’s Project Amad, Tehran’s covert nuclear program, material that supports his contentions at the UN General Assembly.
In addition to the Iranian threat, Netanyahu also raised the issue of Israel’s captives held by the Hamas terror group in Gaza. Netanyahu told Guterres the UN must step up international pressure on Hamas to release the captives, who have mental health issues, and to return the bodies of IDF soldiers Hadar Goldin and Oron Shaul, which Hamas refuses to release.
Finally, the prime minister also told Guterres that the UN must uphold its obligations as a peacekeeper, using its UNIFIL forces to prevent further escalations from Lebanon, where the Hezbollah terror organization has over 100,000 missiles pointed at the Jewish state.
