Former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has slammed the presidency for demanding respect for the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN).
In a Saturday tweet, Fani-Kayode said that the umbrella association of Fulani herdsmen does not deserve any respect from Nigerians.
Recall that the presidency, through a statement signed by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, urged other sociocultural groups in the country to respect Miyetti Allah.
“Miyetti Allah, like any other trade, community, ethnic organisation or interest group is a legal stakeholder in our nation and should be respected,” the Thursday statement read in part.
The presidency had issued the statement after apex Igbo sociocultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, questioned the importance given to Miyetti Allah by the presidency after rumours circulated that the Federal Government had committed to give the herders group N100 billion to curb kidnappings and killings in the country during a meeting with the group in Kebbi State.
But Fani-Kayode claimed that the Miyetti Allah comprised members who had no remorse for shedding innocent blood, saying that such a group did not deserve any respect.
Quoting a portion of the presidential statement, Fani-Kayode wrote: “Presidency Miyetti Allah and their Janjaweed ISWA Fulani herdsmen have shed more innocent blood than any other terrorist org. in the last 4 years including Boko Haram. They are worthy of our hatred, contempt and disdain and not our respect.”
