The Nigerian army has burnt down the Azagbene community in Ekeremor local government area of Bayelsa State.
Soldiers who invaded the community in the early hours of Monday and razed houses claim that community members are hiding sea pirates, who allegedly killed four soldiers.
Members of the community report that during the invasion, many people died and others were whisked away by the soldiers.
“They just arrived and started shooting people, and burning houses in our community. One of them said that we are hiding sea pirates, which is not true.
“For now we cannot say how many people lost their lives in the invasion, but I can confirm that many people were shot and others are still missing,” said a chief.
People are fleeing the community for fear of another attack by the soldiers.
