Northerners no longer take Buhari Serious over failure to tackle insecurity - Shehu Sani

Shehu Sani, former Lawmaker representing Kaduna Central senatorial district, on Wednesday, stated that President Muhammadu Buhari is losing his popularity in the northern part of the country due to increase in insecurity in the region.

Sani during an interview with Punch said, “Buhari is losing his popularity in the north because of the insecurity. The northerners are most fanatical about Buhari before now but he is losing that because of the insecurity in the region.”

Recall that bandits last Friday stormed the Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, and abducted over 300 schoolboys after a gun duel with the police.

This happened after the President arrived in the state the same day for a week-long private visit.

Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, in a recording on Tuesday, disclosed that the students were abducted in order to discourage people from obtaining western education.

The former lawmaker while speaking on the development noted that it is impossible for Boko Haram which is based in the North-East part of Nigeria to kidnap that number of students from the North-West.

He, however, stated that there might have been a joint work between the bandits and the terrorists.

Sani called on Buhari government to reach out to people who understand the security situation of the north so as to end the menace of banditry, kidnapping and terrorism.

He condemned the current government for claiming that it has technically defeated the terrorist group which continues to wreak mayhem on Nigerians daily.
