The National Identification Number (NIN) and SIM data verification deadline has been extended to July 26 by the Federal Government.
Meanwhile, Nigerians have been congratulated for their patience and compliance with the Federal Government's instruction on the NIN-SIM registration procedure by Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami.
This was revealed in a joint statement issued by the National Communications Commission's Public Affairs Director, Ikechukwu Adinde, and the National Identity Management Commission's Head, Corporate Affairs, Kayode Adegoke, on Tuesday.
The extension was approved by the federal government as part of its endeavor to make it easier for citizens and residents to receive the NIN, according to the statement.
On Wednesday, June 30, the earlier deadline would have expired.
According to the authorities, at least 57.3 million Nigerians have signed up for the NIN, with each NIN containing an average of three to four SIMs.
“The decision to extend the deadline was made after a request by stakeholders on the need to consolidate the enrolment and NIN-SIM verification process following the rapid increase in the number of enrolment systems across the country,” the statement said.
