Kanu’s arrest will not affect Biafra agitation, referendum still needed – Northern group

The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) expressed mixed feelings of apprehension and gratitude after learning of Nnamdi's arrest and repatriation.

The group stated that it is concerned about Nnamdi Kanu's arrest until the whole course of justice has been followed.

It argued that Kanu's detention would have little impact on the Biafra agitation because a referendum was required.

In a statement, the group's spokesman, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, praised the federal government's and agencies' efforts and thanked the International Police and UK authorities for upholding their duties to Nigeria.

Nnamdi Kanu is currently on trial for treasonable felony and bail jumping, according to the organization, and must now face additional charges of incitement to violence and killing of persons of different ethnicities, particularly northerners and security officials, as a result of his open provocation.

The statement said, “More importantly, we don’t see Kanu’s arrest affecting the issue of Biafra. While he faces trial hopefully, the CNG is insisting that this is the right time to tackle the Biafran issue once for all.”

The coalition stressed that no one should assume that the arrest means the Biafran crisis is over, saying, “We stand our ground that a referendum must be held to determine this and all other agitations for self-determination from any part of the country.”
