"Southern part of this country are living in paradise when it comes to the issue of hunger" — Shettima

Yerima Shettima, President, Arewa Youth Forum, has charged President Muhammadu Buhari to address the issues in the struggle for June 12, saying that naming National Stadium after Moshood Abiola has not solved the issues in the struggle for actualisation of mandate.

The activist had in an interview with journalists on Thursday in Lagos maintained that as long as there were poverty, insecurity, disregard for rule of law in the country, President Buhari had done nothing to actuallise the struggle.

He said: “It was June 12 that brought some of us into limelight, the ilikes of Aare Onakakanfo, Asari Dokubo were all people that I met in the course of this struggle. We were working together, some of us were in school and some were coming out of school.

“The likes of Shehu Sani, who was in the 8th Assembly as distinguished senator, they were ahead of us age wise and experience wise. The things that brought us together were issues on ground then, they were issues of hunger, insecurity, corruption, unemployment.

“These were germane issues that brought us together and then we were more united than now. There were no difference between Muslims, Christians, Igbo, Yoruba and Hausa.

“Insecurity is at the highest in the regime of Buhari. I don’t know if it is because I reside in the North. Poverty is at highest. Hunger is biting seriously. I will say that people in Southern part of this country are living in paradise when it comes to the issue of hunger.
