Your Bank Details is At Risk If You Are Using VPN - Lai Mohammed Warns Nigerians (video)

The Minister for Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has warned Nigerians against using the Virtual Protection Network (VPN) to access Twitter. The minister said this during a hearing on the Twitter suspension in the House of Representatives on Tuesday, 22nd of June 2021.

"If you use a VPN, you are exposing your data, including your bank account," the Minister said at the hearing. "If you use a VPN and think you are hurting Lai Mohammed, you are hurting yourself."

Nigerians have been using a VPN to access Twitter since the platform's suspension was announced by the Federal Government on the 4th of July, 2021. Some prominent members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), including Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna, Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, and House of Representatives member, Akin Alabi, have used the platform after the suspension was announced.

This appears to be in conflict with Attorney General Abubakar Malami, who had previously directed the Department of State Prosecution and the Nigerian Communications Commission to begin prosecuting people who disobeyed the government's directive.

Twitter would only be allowed to restart operations in Nigeria after registering as a business in Nigeria, according to Lai Mohammed.

According to the Companies and Allied Matters Act, Twitter must register with the Corporate Affairs Commission.
